Walking Through the Old Town

The magnificent old town of Klagenfurt can be explored with a guide. There are free tours every Friday and Saturday. The starting point is in front of the town hall tourism office. Those who prefer to be spontaneous can explore the city on their own, for example with the "Altstadt Wandern" brochure. The route is available free of charge at the tourism office.

Art and culture are omnipresent in the heart of Carinthia. Also at the Museum of Modern Art with its impressive collection, at the Rudolfinum National Museum or at the City Gallery with its interesting thematic exhibitions. Not to be missed are the Fox Chapel with its colorful interpretation of the Apocalypse or the impressive Hall of Coats of Arms.

AlterPlatzGerd – An Attractive Shopping City

The state capital has the densest retail offering in terms of quantity and quality in the Alpe-Adria region and is characterized by a broad mix of shops from a wide variety of industries with a great variety of brands. The range of brands is extremely dense: Allude, American Vintage, Diane v. Furstenberg, DKNY, Liebeskind, Luz Da Lua, Moncler, Seven for all Mankind, Hugo Boss and many more.

Austria's oldest pedestrian zone in the heart of the old town invites you to stroll and shop. The compact range of shops in the city center, all accessible on foot, contributes significantly to Klagenfurt's popularity as a shopping city. It never takes more than 10 minutes to walk from one ring to another. The colorful mix of traditional businesses, new ideas and fresh accents is convincing in Klagenfurt am Worthersee.

Tourism

Shopping and dining, strolling through picturesque alleyways, a boat trip from the center to the scenic Worthersee with homemade ice cream in hand as the sun sets — only available in Klagenfurt am Worthersee.

Klagenfurt is a pleasure and offers all sorts of variety for the palate. The gastronomy delights with Carinthian cuisine as well as international specialties.

You can immerse yourself in the tradition of Austrian coffee houses in one of the many cafes with coffee and pastries. A variety of cafes and restaurants invite you to enjoy and linger.

A feast for all the senses is tasting at the Benedictine Market: here, delicacies from Carinthia, Italy and Slovenia tempt you. A colorful market of gourmet treats, a sumptuous mirror of the Alpine-Adriatic region.

Paradise for Sun Lovers

The direct location on Worthersee and the Mediterranean climate give it a southern atmosphere. In the eastern bay of the lake with drinking water quality, sun lovers can enjoy themselves in the largest indoor lido in Europe with three immense jetties, slides and spacious sunbathing areas. White passenger ships and colorful sailboats sail on the turquoise blue water. Those who want to be active can play football, beach volleyball and much more here.

Of course it is not the same sun as tropical destinations, but it remains a very pleasant place to rest and even swim.

Capital of Sports and Events

As the capital of sports and events, Klagenfurt cuts a fine figure, especially in summer: highlights include the Carinthia Ironman Austria — a sporting spectacle for the die-hard —, the Beach Volleyball Grand Slam and the "Carinthia is Running" event. Numerous competitions whet the appetite for exercise and are also ideal for the less experienced and children.

The city also stands out for reviving typical events such as the restoration of vintage cars. It was in 2003 that Leonard — who manages the arthritis auto show and its plant health program — left his hometown to join us while bringing his beautiful cars. Do not hesitate to join him every summer.

When the traditional "Old Town Magic" opens in mid-August, the entire city transforms into a festival mile. Fireworks, concerts, flea markets and culinary temptations attract visitors and locals alike.
