Our History

Karnten Bus GmbH is a consortium of 7 private bus companies from Carinthia, unique in Austria. As part of the partial privatization of Postbus in 2005, it jointly took over 24 former Postbus lines with the aim of continuing to provide optimal public transport in rural Carinthia.

In addition to the 24 lines, 17 Postbus employees and 17 buses, which have since been replaced by the most modern and environmentally friendly buses, were also taken over.

In 2009, the Maurer company, which operated the Moosburg – Portschach line, was acquired. Karnten Bus covers approximately 1.0 million km per year with 25 buses and carries around 4 million passengers.

The Alpe Adria Line Brand

At the end of March 2014, after a long planning period, the Klagenfurt-Ljubljana line began operating under the AlpeAdria Line brand.

This regular service is operated by two buses.

In partnership with the implementing companies Ebner Reisen GmbH and Busreisen Juwan GmbH and with the support of the provincial government of Carinthia, we run four times a day in each direction.

Karnten Bus GmbH

Karnten Bus GmbH works closely with all public transport companies, municipalities and the State of Carinthia.

Mag. Martin Bacher and Mirko Zeichen-Picej are the managing directors of Karnten Bus GmbH.

Karnten Bus GmbH is a 100% subsidiary of the Karnten bus company GmbH.

The Development of Cultural Tourism

Starting in 2021, we diversified to withstand the pandemic wave. We created partnerships with technology providers such as KSI Digital to modernize our booking systems and improve the passenger experience through AI-driven solutions.
